★★★★★ REASON FOR TICKET: I was coming out a shopping plaza parking lot crossing 3 lanes of northbound traffic to make a left turn to join the southbound lanes. A driver in one of the northbound lanes hit my car while I was crossing northbound lanes. I was deemed at fault because i was making a left turn and should’ve stopped for traffic to pass. I was issued a traffic ticket for careless driving with 6 demerit points.

When the police attend an accident scene, the officer has an obligation to investigate why the accident happened.

Where the police officer believes a law has been broken, the officer may issue a traffic ticket.

No Intent Required

In traffic court, the police and prosecution do not have to prove that you intended to drive carelessly.

In legal terms, this is sometimes called “mens rea” the act of having a guilty mind, or intending on doing something wrong.
