A medical driver’s licence suspension means that a medical professional, police officer or person in authority believes that your medical condition may affect your ability to drive.
This can be a result of the following:
- substance/alcohol abuse issue
- a medical issue, heart condition, cognitive impairment, eyesight etc.
- mental health issues
- any other medical issue that may interfere with the driver’s ability to drive a motor vehicle safely.
Under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario, physicians, optometrists and medical professionals must report any driver suffering from a medical or physical condition.
The law ensures that all drivers are safe for themselves and others while operating a motor vehicle.
