These are the steps required to reinstate a licence that has been suspended for an unpaid fine:
- pay the amount owing
- appear at any courthouse in Ontario, give them the notice or your drivers licence number
- the court clerk will access the computer to tell you the amount owning
- take the payment receipt to any Service Ontario location to pay a reinstatement fee of $281
- keep the proof of reinstatement and fine payment with you while driving
The court clerks will tell you that it will take 4 days to reinstate the licence.
This is actually the time frame it will take for the court and ministry to update their records. In the meantime the databases, including the police database may still show the driver as suspended.
We recommend that you do not drive in this period of time but if you must ensure that you have proof that the suspension has been canceled should you be stopped or involved in an accident.
